IT’S HOW BONDI EATS

The stunning coastline is an integral part of the Bondi lifestyle, for tourists and locals alike. Majority of international visitors to Bondi head to Bondi Beach on their trip and eat out at local eateries. The choices we make when we dine out seriously impact our oceans. By choosing to reuse and opting for alternatives to single-use plastic we can all help protect this beloved pocket of the world, and through our own actions, encourage others to do the same.

WHY CHANGE THE WAY YOU EAT?

Every piece of plastic ever created still exists somewhere.
More than 8 million tonnes of rubbish enters our oceans every year. It’s an issue that is seriously threatening our oceans, and the marine life that calls this incredible ecosystem home. Plastic food packaging in particular poses a significant threat to our waterways, making up more than one third of the litter counted on beaches across Australia in 2017 (excluding cigarettes).
It’s time to change the way we eat.

WHAT YOU CAN DO

  1. BYO CUTLERY AND CONTAINER

The most useful thing you can do is to remember to bring your own takeaway container or reusable cutlery when you head out. Here are three tips to help you remember:

    • Add a ‘BYO cutlery and containers’ reminder on the inside of your front door.

    • Keep a re-usable pack in the boot of your car, which could include cutlery, containers, a reusable bag and coffee cup.

    • Keep a container and cutlery in your bag. There are some great, compact fold-up versions available so they don’t take up too much space.

  2. EAT IN

Left your cutlery or container at home? No biggie! Treat yourself to some ‘you’ time and enjoy your drink or meal in, without the take-away packaging.

  3. SHARE THE PLASTIC-FREE MESSAGE

Show your support on social media by liking and sharing our page. Encourage your favourite bars, cafes and restaurants to opt for biodegradable alternatives to plastic. Start a conversation with family and friends and let them know how un-cool you think single-use plastic is. It’s easier to make the change with the support of others around you.

  4. DOWNLOAD OUR RESOURCES

Keep the conversation going with these posters available to download free from our website.
